Are you thinking of heading to the south of Italy but don’t know where to start or what to do? Luckily for you we have it all figured out! If there’s one place you should exploring on your Italian adventure it's Sorrento. Just over an hour's drive from Naples airport, Sorrento is the perfect spot if you want the flexibility of exploring multiple places for less.

The town itself is quite small but you can definitely spend a couple of days here exploring the wider area, doing some limoncello tasting and even spending the day by the beach!

CAPRI ISLAND

If you’ve never visited the Island of Capri then this is your sign to do so! From Sorrento, head to the marina and book a return ferry to the island. These usually cost around 40 euros each way and can be bought online or down at the port, however we recommend booking in advance as these can sell out quickly especially in high season.

Once you arrive you have 2 options to get to the main piazza… walk 20 minutes uphill or take the funicular! Take a stroll around the island, visit the Augusto gardens, grab some aperitivo in the piazza before grabbing a bus to AnaCapri (the upper town of the island). If you’ve seen the viral videos of the one man chair lift that takes you to the very top of Capri island where you have a 360 view and cute cafes then here is where you will find it. You can take the chair lift both ways or if you prefer you can walk back down! A return ticket costs 14 euros and can be bought at the ticket office before entering.

POSITANO

Let’s talk about the Amalfi coast. We get it… it can be spenny but you don’t necessarily need to stay there if you want to save a little bit. Places like Positano and Amalfi are easily accessible from Sorrento just like Capri. Although a return ticket is around 35-40 euros it’s still a hell of a lot cheaper than spending the night and to top it off you’ll even get to enjoy the views of the town and coastline from far at sea (they are stunning trust us). These towns are pretty small but they are so worth the hype. Spend the day exploring the little cobbled streets, grab some lunch and spend the day relaxing with an aperol or two in hand at one of the many beach clubs. Living the tru italian dream!

POMPEII

Last but not least, one for history lovers. If you’re all about learning about the history of a country and what makes it so special then this is for you! Take the train from Sorrento to Pompeii and enjoy a day exploring and learning all about this incredible place. Tickets depend on age and various other things but can be bought right there at the entrance. Mind that it can get very busy especially during high season so we would definitely recommend going as early as possible as you’ll spend many hours there! If you really want to do it all then you can get back on the train and head to Ercolano. Very similar to Pompeii but much smaller and less crowded ruins!

So there you go! Whether you’re planning to spend a couple of days or 4 exploring Sorrento and all the beautiful places around then you’ve found your perfect guide. However, if you want to explore the south of Italy and don’t want to do any of the planning then we have you covered! Check out our 8 day Slice of Italy tour that will take you from Rome to Sorrento and tick off every bucket list experience including all of the above! Ciao for now
