PEOPLE AND PLANET PROMISE

Our goal since we started has been to always give more than we take. In 2022, we decided to double down on our efforts of doing good and really put our money where our mouth is. But instead of just focusing on the climate crisis, we wanted to put equal emphasis on both people and the planet. Here is an overview of the promises we have made and our progress so far:

We have calculated this number in two ways. First, the total number of people our brand comes into contact with by 2030 will mean we will have positively impacted 80,000 customers and staff who travel or work with us. The second contribution to this number is the number of people who will stand to benefit from our charitable donations and the community projects we create, which will be 170,000 by 2030.

In 2022 we signed the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism and created our own Climate Action plan to help support the global commitment to halve emissions by 2030 and reach net zero before 2050. In doing so, we now measure and declare our carbon footprint as a business every month and decarbonise by offsetting all carbon emissions through a variety of projects and tree planting initiatives.

We have committed to gifting 1% of our yearly revenue to be spent on people and planet initiatives. Meaning our impact is not reliant on donations post profit, it is directly built into our business model.

Salaam Balak Trust is one of the most trusted non-profit organisations for street children in Delhi. In India, we’ll visit their headquarters and learn how the organisation provides children with opportunities and care to help support those living on the streets.

Located in the mountainous Mae Sapok district of Chiang Mai, this long-standing partnership offers TruTravels guests a rare opportunity to trek through the forest, stay in an authentic Karen Hill Tribe village, and connect with rural Thai life.

All supported Projects

At the end of 2024, we funded the construction of eight wells in rural Cambodia. The project will provide reliable drinking water, reduce waterborne diseases and free up time for locals to pursue education and livelihoods.

Our ongoing donations have helped the Bali Street Mums Project, an Indonesian NGO that helps women and children. The project provides a safe house, food, medical support and education for impoverished families. We have been working with Bali Street Mums for over 5 years, and it's amazing to see the support that they have provided locals.

We recently donated 100 culturally relevant books to Australia’s Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF). ILF works with remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to provide free books, early‑literacy resources and books in Indigenous languages. The organisation has delivered over 1 million books and partners with more than 500 remote communities across Australia.

We recently funded our second trash barrier with Sungai Watch. Indonesia is the world’s second‑largest plastic polluter, and illegal landfills continue to grow rapidly. Sungai Watch’s community clean‑ups have removed over 1.6 million kg of non‑organic trash and engaged 45,386 volunteer hours since 2022, and we are proud to support their work.

Our donations have sponsored 64 scholarships through Children of Vietnam. The charity’s mission is to break the cycle of poverty by providing targeted support and wraparound services to children and their families. By funding scholarships, we help students continue their education, reducing the risk of dropping out and opening pathways to brighter futures.
