Before you book
Can I combine two trips back-to-back?
Yes. Multi Country trips like Cambodia & Vietnam Explorer or Total Thailand are built as one journey with everything included. You can also bundle two or more full-price trips for 5% off. Bundles don't include flights between trips. Some trips can run straight into each other, others need a day or two for the flight and any visa admin, so ask the team and we'll advise.
What's the difference between Classic and Essentials?
Classic trips are packed with inclusions and stay in hotels, homestays, beach huts and the odd boat, twin-share. Essentials trips cost less, stay in hand-picked hostels (usually dorms), leave more free time and are just for 18–29s. Same destinations, different budget and vibe.
Is TruTravels financially protected?
Yes. We're ABTA members (Y6506) and ATOL protected (ATOL 11807), so your booking is fully financially protected under the Package Travel Regulations. If anything ever happened to us, your trip would still go ahead or you'd get your money back.
I'm a travel agent. How do I sell Tru trips?
Register your agency on the Agent Registration page (it registers the agency, not an individual). Once approved you'll get access to Sherpa, our agent platform, and can give individual agents at your firm their own logins. Already registered? Log in to Sherpa.
The date I want is sold out. How does the waitlist work?
Spots open up when someone cancels or changes their plans, and they go to the waitlist first. Give us your name and email and we'll add you for that date. If a place frees up we'll email you straight away, so keep an eye on your inbox.
Are departures guaranteed?
Yes. Every trip runs, so once you've booked you can lock in flights with total peace of mind.
When will new departure dates be released?
As soon as our local teams have locked in transport and places to stay. Leave your email and we'll message you the second new dates for that trip go live.
Can I check if there are still places on a specific date?
Live availability is under Check Dates on each trip page. 'Last places' means it's nearly full, so grab it with a £200 (EUR 240, AUD 250, CAD 360, NZD 400 or 280 USD 280) deposit. Sold out? Join the waitlist, and we'll tell you the moment a spot opens.
How do I hear about Limited Edition trips like Rio Carnival?
Limited Edition trips run a handful of times and sell fast. Sign up on the homepage banner or the trip page and you'll be first in line when dates and prices go live.
Can I get a private room?
Most trips are twin-share with another traveller of the same gender, and private room upgrades are available on selected trips and legs. Tell us the trip and date you're looking at and we'll check what's possible.
Can a group of us travel together?
Definitely. Book the same departure and tell us you're together so we can room you as a group. Bigger group, or a community you'd like to bring? Look at Host A Trip, or email info@trutravels.com.
What are the different travel styles?
Classic: our signature trip, big on inclusions, a great mix of places to stay, open to 18–45. Essentials: maximum adventure, minimum cost, hostels and street food, exclusively for 18–29s. Multi Country: cross borders and pack more in. Limited Edition: trips that run only a handful of times around a festival or an event. When they're gone, they're gone.
If I book more than one trip, is transport between them included?
For bundles, no, but we'll help you plan the best way between them. Pre-built Multi Country trips do include all transport within the itinerary, including the border crossing.
How fit do I need to be?
Normal fitness is plenty, and almost everything is optional. A few Rise Up moments are worth knowing about: the one-day Inca Trail in Peru (12km at altitude), the jungle trek to the hill-tribe homestay in northern Thailand (three to four hours), the Sigiriya Rock climb in Sri Lanka and the 650 steps up El Peñol in Colombia. Bali is beaches, a surf lesson and easy walks at your own pace.
Do I need an account to book?
No, you can browse and book without one. A free account is worth having though: it saves trips you're eyeing up, unlocks member deals, tracks your VIP days and holds your bookings and profile in one place. One free account unlocks everything. No catch.
How do deals work?
Sale departures, last-minute discounts and early-bird prices, all shown on the Deals page and on each trip's departure list as a percentage off the full price. Gone when they're gone. Members get extra deals through their account, and you can filter deals by departure timing, price and saving.
Do you do student discounts?
Yes, through Student Beans verified students can grab a discount! If you are a grad, you can also get a discount through Grad Beans!
What is the VIP Programme?
The more you travel, the more you earn. Every day on a Tru trip counts, and you level up automatically. Game-Changer (30 days): a £50 travel voucher every year, 5% off Tru trips, entry into a monthly £250 prize draw, early access to sales and invites to trial trips. Icon (50 days): a £100 voucher every year, 10% off, plus all the Game-Changer perks. Legend (100 days): a £150 voucher every year, 15% off, all the lower-tier perks, plus a free pre-night on every trip and a private room upgrade when there's one spare. MVP (365 days): free trips for life, plus the prize draw, early sale access, trial trip invites, a free pre-night and a room upgrade when there's one spare. Track it all on your dashboard.
Where can I read reviews?
Google (4.8, 1,300+ reviews), Trustpilot (4.9, 3,600+) and TourRadar (4.9, 17,000+), plus real reviews on every trip page. Don't just take our word for it.
What does 'request space' mean?
It means we need to double-check availability with our team on the ground before your spot is fully locked in. As departure gets closer (usually 30 to 60 days out, depending on the trip), spaces go on request. We take full payment upfront so our operations team can get straight to work securing your accommodation and transport. If our local team can't confirm, you get a full refund.
How close to departure can I book?
Right up until close to departure. Late bookings go on request, and we ask for at least 72 working hours before the trip starts so our team can check availability with our local partners and confirm everything before you pack.
I'm not ready to book yet. Can I hold a space?
Yes. You can hold a spot on our website for up to 72 hours. Once you've held it, our team will check in, answer any last questions and send your payment link whenever you're ready to lock it in.
On a combo trip, will I have the same group and Local Legend throughout?
No, and that's part of the fun. Combo trips join two or more of our itineraries into one bigger journey, so as you move from one part to the next you'll switch to a new Local Legend and meet a new group. More people, more connections.
What's a Tru trip actually like?
Land somewhere new knowing nobody. Leave a couple of weeks later with a camera roll full of ridiculous moments, a group chat that won't shut up, and at least one thing you never thought you'd be brave enough to try. Underneath that there's an itinerary, a Local Legend and all the logistics handled, so you can just turn up and say yes.
What's the age mix on a specific trip like Thailand Island Hopper or Greece?
Every group is a mix, but on most Classic trips you'll find people in their 20s and early 30s, with Greece and Europe by Rail skewing 18–30. Backpacker trips are 18–29 only. Curious about a specific departure? Ask the team and we'll check the age mix for you, then keep an eye on your account area to see who else has booked.
Do many people travel solo?
Most do. Around 65 to 75% of TruTravellers join on their own, depending on the trip and dates, so the person next to you at the welcome dinner is probably in the same boat. You'll be chatting in the group WhatsApp before you fly, and by day two the group chat won't shut up.
I've never travelled solo before and I'm nervous. Is this for me?
You don't have to be fearless. You just have to go. Most people on a Tru trip came alone, so nobody's the odd one out. You'll share a room with another traveller of the same gender, your Local Legend is with you from the first evening, and the group is talking on WhatsApp before you've even packed. Nervous is normal. It usually lasts until about the second drink on night one.
Is it safe for a solo female traveller?
Travelling with a small group and a Local Legend who calls the place home is one of the most reassuring ways to see the world on your own. Transport, accommodation and activities are sorted, and there's always someone who knows the ground. If you'd rather travel with an all-female group, we run community departures with partners like Gals Who Travel.
How many people are on each trip?
Between 10 and 20, depending on the trip. Small enough that nobody sits on the edge of the group, big enough that you'll find your people. Want to know how many have booked on your date so far? Ask the team and we'll check. Groups do fill up, so if a date is calling you, don't sit on it.
Can I join if I'm not from the UK?
Of course. Our groups come from all over the world, and that mix is half the fun. Prices show in GBP, AUD, CAD, EUR and USD.
Are your trips all about partying?
No. Evenings are a big part of a Tru trip, but they're yours. Some nights the group heads out for drinks; others it's a night market, a sunset, a card game that gets out of hand. Your Local Legend always has a non-drinking option, and nothing in the evening is compulsory.
Are your trips LGBTQ+ friendly?
Yes. Everyone is welcome on a Tru trip, and we also run community departures with LGBTQ+ partners. Some destinations are especially open: Thailand is one of the most LGBTQ+ friendly countries in Asia, and Vietnam's big cities are relaxed and welcoming.
What are Life Moments?
A way to find your trip by where you are in life rather than just where you want to go. Gap Year, Just Left Uni, Looking To Challenge Myself, Solo Soul Searcher, Turning 30 and Work Break Recharge each pull together the trips that fit that chapter. Different stage of life, different kind of trip.
What's a good first trip?
Thailand Island Hopper, Bali Experience and Thailand Experience are the classic first-timers: easy to get to, friendly, and full of people doing exactly what you're doing. The Explore page has a 'Perfect First Trips' shelf, or answer a few questions on Inspire Me and we'll match you.
Is everything included?
Everything that matters for getting around and getting stuck in: all your accommodation, all transport between destinations, every activity on the itinerary, some meals and your Local Legend. Arrival transfers can be added to most departures through your account. What's not included: international flights, travel insurance and some other meals!
What's the age range on your trips?
Most of our travellers are aged 18 to 35, and our trips are open to anyone up to 45. Essentials trips are built just for 18–29s; Classic, Multi Country and Ski trips are open to everyone under 45. If you're over 45 and you've travelled with us before, drop the sales team a line at info@trutravels.com and we'll see what we can do.
What does 'Leave Ordinary Behind' mean?
It's the belief underneath everything we do. Not escaping your life, expanding it. Travel gives you permission to say yes more, meet people you'd never normally meet, try things that scare you a little and come home with more confidence, connection and possibility than you left with. The destination is the setting. What happens to you is the story.
What are the Tru Experience Types?
Every Tru trip is intentionally designed around five kinds of moment. Local Lens: see the place through the people who live there. Rise Up: step past comfortable and find out what you're capable of. Bucket List: the iconic moments you pictured before you booked. Tru-ly Unique: experiences made possible through our own relationships and ideas, just for the Tru community. Unplugged: phone away, slow down, be there. On each trip page you can filter the itinerary by type to see how the trip delivers them.
What's a Local Lens experience?
Seeing a destination through someone who calls it home. Cooking with a family in Ubud, wandering Hoi An with a local artisan, a hill-tribe homestay in the Atlas or northern Thailand. It's where a place stops feeling foreign and starts feeling personal.
What's a Rise Up experience?
The moment you step past comfortable. A 3am alarm for the Mount Batur sunrise, the climb up Sigiriya Rock, a first surf lesson, the Inca Trail. Challenging in a supportive way, never macho. You arrive unsure. You leave stronger.
What's a Bucket List experience?
The ones you've seen in photos and imagined being in: sunrise at Angkor Wat, an overnight boat on Ha Long Bay, Maya Bay, Komodo dragons, the Taj Mahal at first light. The reason you started looking at the trip in the first place.
What's a Tru-ly Unique experience?
Something you can only do with us, made possible by our relationships and our own ideas. One night where Bottle Beach is ours, with a fire show on the sand. A cooking class in Wayan's family home in Ubud. Moyo Island, where only around 50 people a day are allowed. Not scarcity for its own sake, just moments that feel distinctively Tru.
What's an Unplugged experience?
The quiet bit. Floating bungalows on a lake in Khao Sok with no Wi-Fi. A silent sunrise on a Sri Lankan beach. A hammock afternoon in Costa Rica. Not every extraordinary moment needs adrenaline; sometimes it's a cup of tea in the jungle and a conversation that runs long after dinner.
Why doesn't every trip show all five Experience Types?
Because we only tag a moment when the trip genuinely delivers it. Some trips lean harder into one type than another, which is exactly why you can search by the kind of experiences you want, not just the country. A Thailand Island Hopper leans Bucket List and Unplugged; a Morocco trip leans Local Lens.
What happened to TruExclusives?
They've evolved into Tru-ly Unique experiences. Same idea, a bigger ambition: moments created for the Tru community through our own access, partnerships and ideas, explained by why they feel special rather than shouted as 'exclusive'.
Who is my guide?
A Local Legend. Someone who feels more like a mate who happens to know the way. Born where they guide (or as good as), with you day and evening, not just nine to five. They know which street-food stall to order from, the story behind the place you're standing, and when the group needs a push, a laugh or a moment to slow down.
What happened to Tru Leaders?
Same people, bigger role. Our guides have been Travel Ninjas and Tru Leaders over the years; from 2026 they're Local Legends. It's not a cosmetic rename. They're trained around the five Experience Types and asked to turn every stop into a story, not just tick off the itinerary.
Getting Ready
How much spending money should I take?
Everyone's different, but around £150–£250 a week goes a long way in Asia for food, drinks and shopping, since accommodation, transport and activities are covered. In Thailand that's roughly £15–25 a day. Budget more for Europe, Japan and Latin America.
I need to edit my Good to Go portal but it won't let me.
As your departure gets close, the portal locks so our team can confirm your accommodation, local transport and internal flights. If any of your saved details need changing, message the team and we'll sort it.
I've just booked and haven't received my confirmation email.
Give it about 30 minutes, and check your spam or junk folder, as confirmations often land there. Still nothing? Email info@trutravels.com and we'll chase it.
I booked before the site changed. Will my trip be different?
Same trip, same places, same Local Legend. What's evolved is how we design and talk about the moments on it: your Local Legend will introduce the five Experience Types on your welcome night, and we're adding Unplugged moments to itineraries over time. Everything you booked is still there.
What happens after I book?
You'll get a confirmation email and access to your account, where you can pay your balance, add transfers and update your details. Around two weeks out your pre-departure pack arrives, and a week out your Local Legend adds you to the group WhatsApp. From the moment you book, you're in.
Can I book a pre-night before the trip starts?
Yes. We can arrange extra nights at the start hotel so you don't have to move rooms. Send us the dates and we'll come back with rates. Pre-nights aren't included in the trip price (Legend and MVP VIPs get one free on every trip).
Are airport transfers included?
Arrival transfers can be added to most departures. Book yours in your account area up to 60 days before your trip; after that they're subject to availability, so contact the team to request one. We keep an eye on your flight details and organise the pickup around your arrival time, whether you land on day 1 or come in early for a pre-night. Need a transfer at the end of the trip? For most departures we can arrange one, just ask the team.
Can I find out who else is in my group?
You'll meet everyone in the WhatsApp group your Local Legend sets up about a week before you go. Until then, the TruTravellers Facebook group is full of past and future travellers.
When will I hear from my Local Legend?
About a week before departure you'll get a welcome message from your Local Legend introducing themselves, confirming day 1 and adding you to the group WhatsApp. That's when the trip really starts: by the time you land, you'll already know a few names.
How do I stay connected on the trip?
Grab an eSIM before you fly so you're online the moment you land. We recommend Airalo (code TRUTRAVELS15 for 15% off). Every hotel and most cafés have Wi-Fi. A couple of Unplugged stops, like the floating bungalows in Khao Sok, have no signal on purpose.
Is there a packing list?
Yes. Your pre-departure pack has a day-by-day packing list, a climate guide and local transport tips for your trip. It lands about two weeks before you go and lives in your account.
Are there luggage weight limits?
Luggage allowances vary by trip, especially on itineraries with internal flights. Tell the team which trip you're booked on and we'll confirm the exact limits for your route. On Europe by Rail you'll need to lift your bag into the overhead rack, so pack light enough to manage it yourself.
Backpack or suitcase?
Either works. A backpack is usually the easier option, since wheels don't love beaches, boat decks or overhead train racks. But if a suitcase is what you've got, bring it.
How should I carry my money?
A travel card with good rates (Monzo, Revolut or similar) and cash from local ATMs. ATMs are easy to find everywhere we go, though most charge a fee per withdrawal, so take out a bit more, less often. Cash is still king at markets and small stalls. Your Local Legend knows the cheapest ATMs.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes. It's a condition of booking and we'll check it on day one. Your policy needs to cover the whole trip: emergency medical and repatriation, cancellation and curtailment, lost or stolen gear, 24/7 assistance and the activities you'll be doing (trekking, snorkelling, surfing and so on). World Nomads covers 150+ adventure activities and is a good place to start, though we don't represent them and it's not a recommendation to buy.
What if I have an allergy or dietary requirement?
Tell us when you book so your Local Legend knows, and we'll brief cooking classes and homestays too. Carrying allergy cards in the local language is a smart move for restaurants. Vegetarian and vegan options are easy in most of our destinations, Thailand especially.
Can I drink the tap water?
Mostly no: stick to bottled or filtered water, and ice in bigger hotels and restaurants is usually fine. Japan is the exception, where tap water is generally safe.
Do I need any vaccinations?
For most of our destinations, nothing specific, but keep tetanus up to date and check with your doctor or a travel clinic. Your country's official travel-health guidance (NHS Fit for Travel in the UK) has destination-specific advice. We can't give medical advice.
My passport is being renewed. Can I still book, or keep my Inca Trail permit?
Yes. We lock in your booking (and your Inca Trail permit on the Peru trip) with your current passport number. When the new one arrives, email us a photo of the main page and we'll update everything.
How long does my passport need to be valid?
Most destinations want at least six months' validity from the day you enter, and some want blank pages. Renewing? We can hold your booking on your current passport number and update it later.
Do I need a visa?
Depends on your passport and where you're going. Use the Visa Checker on our Visas & Passports page (powered by Sherpa) for a quick answer, then confirm with your government's official travel advice and apply through official channels. Once you've booked we send visa guidance for your trip.
Which airport do I fly into?
The start city on your trip page. For example: Bali Experience is Denpasar (DPS); Thailand trips are Bangkok (BKK or DMK); Philippines is Manila (MNL); Morocco Uncovered is Marrakech (RAK); Greece is Athens (ATH); Legend of Japan is Tokyo (HND or NRT); Vietnam Explorer is Ho Chi Minh City; Peru is Cusco; India is Delhi (DEL); Colombia is Medellín (MDE); Brazil Experience is Rio (GIG). Each trip page has a 'which airport' FAQ.
What day should I book my flight home?
The last day is checkout day with no activities. Check-out is usually around 10am, and on some trips there's travel that morning, so book a later flight or fly the following day. Several trips end in a different city from where they start, so check the end city on your trip page.
What day should I arrive?
Day 1 of the trip. Hotel check-in is usually around 2pm, so most people aim to arrive around then. There's nothing scheduled until the evening welcome dinner, which is where the group first meets. Arrive the day before if you'd like a night's sleep first; we can arrange a pre-night.
Do I need to book flights before I book the trip?
No. Lock in your spot first (departures are guaranteed), then sort flights whenever works for you. Send us the details once you have them; if we haven't got them 14 days before the trip we'll chase you.
Are flights included?
No. You book your own flights to the start city and home from the end city (Skyscanner and Kayak are good for comparing). Send us the details once you're sorted.
Does it matter which insurer I use?
No, any reputable insurer is fine if the policy covers your whole trip and your activities. Don't just pick the cheapest; look for one that pays the hospital directly rather than making you pay up front and claim back.
On the trip
What happens in the evenings?
The group heads out for dinner most nights at places we've found over the years, and often on somewhere afterwards: a rooftop, a beach bar, a night market, a sunset. Evenings aren't on the itinerary and aren't compulsory, and there's always a non-drinking option. The best conversations tend to happen here.
What if my flight is delayed and I miss the welcome dinner?
Don't panic. Message your Local Legend in the WhatsApp group with your new arrival time. Nothing happens before the welcome dinner on day 1, and they'll make sure you're settled and caught up.
How do I get from the airport to the start hotel?
Add an arrival transfer in your account (up to 60 days before the trip) and a driver will meet you at arrivals, timed around your flight. Inside 60 days, ask the team and we'll check availability. Your Local Legend shares the hotel details in the WhatsApp group about a week before.
Which projects do you support?
Long-term partners, not one-off PR moments: charity: water (eight wells in rural Cambodia), Bali Street Mums, the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, Sungai Watch (river trash barriers in Bali) and Children of Vietnam (64 scholarships). Plus Planeterra projects on the ground, like our elephant sanctuary partner in Thailand.
What's the People & Planet Promise?
Three measurable promises: positively impact 250,000 lives by 2030, generate £1.25 million for people and planet initiatives by 2030 (1% of our revenue, built into the business model, not donated after profit), and be climate positive now under the Glasgow Declaration. So far: 332,482 trees planted, £320,123 donated to 29 initiatives in 12 countries, 8,903 tonnes of carbon offset.
How do you look after the places we visit?
Through our People & Planet Promise: 1% of revenue goes to people and planet initiatives, we measure and offset our carbon every month, and we build trips around community tourism enterprises, locally owned businesses like The Art House in Marrakech, the Bang Lamphu community in Bangkok and Horses of Gili. Leave a place better than you found it.
Is it safe?
Every destination we run trips in is considered safe for travellers, and a small group with a Local Legend who knows the ground is the safest way to see them. Normal sense applies: watch your bag in busy markets and mind the traffic in Vietnam and India.
What's the language situation?
English gets you by in tourist areas everywhere we go, and your Local Legend handles the rest. A few local words always land well; by day two on the Vietnam trip you'll be ordering bún chả like a local.
Can I customise the itinerary?
The group itinerary is fixed so everyone shares the same experience, but you can add pre- or post-nights, a private room and, on some trips, an extension like Komodo. Your Local Legend will also help you make the free time yours.
Can I skip part of the trip to visit family and rejoin later?
Sometimes. The itinerary is fixed so the group stays together, but leaving and rejoining can work on some routes. Send us the exact dates and stops you're thinking of and we'll check with the ops team.
What does a Local Legend actually do?
Runs the trip, and then some. They handle the logistics so you don't have to, and they're with you day and evening. But the real job is noticing the opportunity inside the itinerary: the story on the bus, the detour worth taking, the introduction, the encouragement before you try something new. The question isn't 'did the activity happen', it's 'what will you remember about how it happened'.
Are there optional extras I'll be asked to pay for?
Everything on the itinerary is included: no bolt-ons, no tier menus. Some destinations have optional add-ons on free days (a dive, a scooter, rafting) that you can choose to do, but they're never required.
What if I don't want to do an activity?
Then don't. Every activity is optional and there's never any pressure. Not feeling the open water? Stay on the boat. It's your trip.
Is there any free time?
Yes. Itineraries balance the moments we've planned with time to explore, shop, get a massage or do absolutely nothing. Your Local Legend will have first-hand recommendations for the free days.
Can dietary requirements be catered for?
Yes. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and allergies are all fine if you tell us when you book, so your Local Legend and the places we eat can plan ahead.
How many meals are included on my trip?
It's under 'What you get' on every trip page. Thailand Island Hopper, for example, includes 4 breakfasts, 4 lunches and 1 dinner; Morocco Uncovered 7 breakfasts, 1 lunch and 5 dinners.
Is food included?
Some of it. Welcome and farewell dinners are on every trip, along with the group feasts you'd never want to miss (family-style on a beach, the hill-tribe homestay). Most breakfasts are in too. We don't lock you into every meal, because you'll want to roam the street markets and find your own spots.
What accommodation do we stay in?
Hotels, hostels, homestays, beach huts, floating bungalows, even boats: we mix it up to fit the destination, comfortable where it counts and local and characterful everywhere else. Mostly twin-share rooms with a same-sex roommate, occasionally a triple or a dorm just for our group. You'll always have a clean bed, hot water and somewhere to dump your bag. Exact properties can change, but the standard doesn't.
Will my Local Legend talk about the Experience Types on the trip?
Yes, lightly. On the welcome night they'll explain the five types you'll hear about over the trip, and they'll name a moment as Local Lens or Rise Up when it adds meaning. It's never a branded presentation; the experience comes first, the label just helps you see why the moment matters.
Payments & Changes
Can I transfer my booking or deposit to a friend?
Yes. More than 60 days before departure, a name change costs a standard £50 admin fee: send us your booking reference and your friend's details. Inside 60 days, message the team and we'll check your booking, as local flight or supplier rules may apply closer to the start.
I'm holding a space. How do I confirm it?
Message our team when you're ready to make it official. We'll send your payment link and get your spot confirmed.
Can I pay with AMEX?
Yes. We accept AMEX along with all major credit and debit cards, so pick whichever works best for you.
I need to make a payment towards my trip. How do I do this?
Log in to your account on our website and pay off instalments whenever you're ready. Your full balance is due 60 days before departure.
I've forgotten my password.
Use the forgotten-password link on the login page and we'll email a reset. Make sure it's the email you booked with.
How do I manage my booking?
Log in to your account with the email you booked with. Bookings, saved trips, payments, transfers, passport and flight details and your VIP progress all live there.
Do my VIP days ever expire?
Never. Days are yours for life and you're never downgraded. Every day on every trip counts, multi-country included.
When do I get my VIP travel voucher?
At the start of each calendar year, based on your tier, straight into your account for any future booking.
Can I use my VIP discount or travel credit on a sale price?
VIP discounts apply to full-price trips only. Your annual travel voucher can go on any booking, including sale trips.
How do multi-trip bundles work for payment?
Bundle two or more full-price trips for 5% off (trips already on sale aren't eligible). Each trip needs its £200 deposit, the full amount is due 60 days before the first trip starts, and all trips need to happen within 12 months of that first start date.
What if TruTravels changes or cancels my trip?
Departures are guaranteed, so this is rare. If we ever had to make a significant change to an essential part of your package, you'd be offered an alternative or a full refund under the Package Travel Regulations.
Can I switch to a different trip?
Yes. With 60+ days' notice your deposit moves to any other trip or date for free (one change). Any price difference is payable, and credit stays on your account for next time.
What if I need to cancel?
More than 60 days before departure, you lose the deposit only. 60 days or less, the cancellation charge is 100% of the trip cost, which is exactly why insurance with cancellation cover matters. Insurance premiums and amendment fees aren't refundable.
Can I pay a deposit?
Yes. Lock in your spot with £200 per person per trip (EUR 240, AUD 250, CAD 360, NZD 400, USD 280) and pay the rest by 60 days before departure. Booking within 60 days of departure? That's paid in full.
What does a change cost after the free one?
£50 per person per change (€65, US$70, AU$100), plus any costs from suppliers.
Can I change my trip date?
Yes. With 60+ days' notice you get one free date change to any available departure (or a trip of equal or higher value). Inside 60 days an admin fee applies and it's subject to availability; inside 30 days changes can't be guaranteed. No changes within 7 days of departure.
Do prices ever change after I've booked?
Your price is fixed once the deposit is paid, apart from changes in fuel, taxes or exchange rates. We absorb increases up to 2%; anything above that is passed on, and if it ever exceeded 8% you could cancel for a full refund.
My discount code isn't working.
Codes can be expired, mistyped or limited to full-price trips (most can't stack on sale prices). Send us the code and we'll check its rules.
My card was declined at checkout. What do I do?
International payments sometimes trigger a security check with banks outside the UK and EU. Give your bank a heads-up, try another card or PayPal, or ask us and we'll send a custom payment link to lock in your deposit.
Why does the trip show a price per day?
So you can compare trips fairly. A 27-day trip costs more than an 8-day one, but per day it's often better value. The 'from' price is the lowest current departure; each date shows its own price and any saving.
Can I pay in my own currency?
Prices are shown and charged in GBP, AUD, CAD, EUR and USD. Any debit or credit card works; your bank converts at its own rate.
How do I book?
Hit Check Dates on any trip page, pick your departure and pay online with a debit or credit card. Or call the UK office on +44 203 542 2463 and a human will sort it.
When is my final balance due?
60 days before your trip starts. Pay it off in chunks or all at once through your account.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes. Pay your way: set up a flexible payment plan in your account (sign in with the email you booked with) and pay off instalments whenever you like. Want a hand setting it up or to talk through your options? Message the team or call +44 203 542 2463. Interest-free, as long as it's all paid 60 days before departure.
Is the deposit refundable?
It's non-refundable, but it is flexible: with 60+ days' notice you can move it to another date or trip (one free change) or transfer it to a friend.
Is my spot guaranteed once I've paid a deposit?
Yes. The moment the deposit lands, the place is yours, as long as the balance clears 60 days before you go.
After your trip
What time does the trip finish?
The last day is checkout day and the trip officially ends then. No activities, so treat it as a travel day. Late flight? Your Local Legend will have ideas for filling it, and there'll be details to swap and goodbyes to drag out.
Is transport to the airport included at the end?
Not as standard, but for most departures we can arrange a departure transfer. Message the team and we'll confirm for your trip. Your Local Legend can also point you to the easiest option.
Can I book extra nights at the end?
On select departures, yes. Message the team with your dates and we'll check availability. Post-nights are limited, so most bookings go on request.
Can you help with onward travel?
That's what your Local Legend is there for. Another Tru trip, a few days on a beach, or the flight home: they'll point you in the right direction.
Which airport do I fly out of at the end?
The end city on your trip page. For example: Bali Experience ends on Gili T (fly from Lombok or head back to Denpasar); Greece ends in Santorini (JTR); Legend of Japan in Osaka (KIX); Colombia in Cartagena (CTG); Brazil Experience in São Paulo (GRU); Vietnam Explorer in Hanoi. Morocco, Peru and India end where they start.
How much time should I leave between two back-to-back trips?
It depends on the two trips. Some can run back-to-back; others need a day or two for the flight between end and start cities and any visa admin, like the Vietnam e-visa after Thailand. Message the team with the trips you're looking at and we'll advise.
How do I leave a review?
Google, Trustpilot or TourRadar, whichever you use. We read every one, and the good bits end up on trip pages. Honest is better than glowing.
What are Stories?
Real moments from the road: video diaries from travellers, creators and Local Legends, plus long reads on destinations, first-timer tips, food, solo travel and more. Filter by destination or life moment. Got one? Upload it and it might end up there.
Does the community carry on after the trip?
That's usually the bit that lasts. The group chat keeps going and people meet up (there was a Tru Crew reunion in Lisbon: 14 countries, 23 humans, one rooftop). Join the TruTravellers Facebook group and follow us on socials to stay in the loop.
Do I get anything for travelling with you again?
Every day on a trip counts towards your VIP status. From 30 days you're a Game-Changer with 5% off Tru trips, a £50 travel voucher each year, early access to sales and entry into a monthly £250 prize draw, and it climbs from there. Check your progress on your dashboard; we'll email you when you level up.
Can I bring my own community on a trip, or earn from recommending you?
Yes to both. Host A Trip lets you run a Tru trip for your community, with us handling everything and you earning commission. Tru Affiliates gives you trackable links and commission on every booking you send our way. Both start with a short application on the Partners page.
Could I become a Local Legend?
Maybe. We hire people we'd happily spend fourteen days on a minibus with. Roles come up on the Join The Crew page, and you can send a speculative application to recruitment@trutravels.com with your CV, a short intro and what excites you about it.
I've got feedback or a problem after my trip. Who do I contact?
Email info@trutravels.com or call +44 203 542 2463 and a human will pick it up. Live chat runs 9:30am to 5pm UK time, with extra cover from our team in Bali and Thailand during their local hours.
