Argentina Travel Advice

THE BEST TIME TO VISIT

Argentina is a huge country stretching from subtropical jungle to glaciers, so the best time to visit depends on where you're headed! Spring (September-November) and autumn (March-May) are the sweet spots for Buenos Aires and the wine regions. Summer (December–February) is ideal for Patagonia's hiking season too!

TRANSPORT

Getting around Argentina usually means a mix of domestic flights and long-distance buses. The buses here are super comfortable, some with fully reclining seats! In Buenos Aires, the Subte (metro) and colectivos (buses) are cheap and easy with a SUBE card. Distances are big here, so flights are worth it for Patagonia or Iguazú Falls. On our tours, all transport between destinations is sorted for you!

CUISINE & FOOD

Argentina is a meat-lover's paradise! A proper asado (Argentine BBQ) is an absolute must. Try empanadas, milanesas, and provoleta (grilled cheese) too and don't skip the dulce de leche on literally everything sweet.

VISA ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Many nationalities can enter Argentina visa-free for up to 90 days. Requirements vary by passport, so always check with your government's official travel website before you go. Make sure your passport has at least 6 months' validity remaining from your date of entry!

Argentina FAQs

Do I need a visa to visit Argentina?

Visa requirements often change, and it is always worth checking your local government website for the most up-to-date information.

What vaccinations are required for Argentina?

We always recommend speaking to your local doctors, we're not medically trained so cannot give official advice on the vaccines you need/don't need.

What’s the weather like in Argentina?

Argentina is HUGE, so the weather is dependent on where you are going within the country! Buenos Aires has a temperate climate with warm summers and mild winters, while Patagonia in the south is much cooler year-round, and the north can get very hot and humid.

Is there a tipping culture in Argentina?

We'd recommend tipping around 10% of the bill at restaurants and bars when you have had great service. This isn't essential, but it is a nice gesture. Your guide will be able to advise you further on tipping customs as you explore the country.

Are there ATMS in Argentina?

ATMs are usually easy to find in cities and towns across Argentina. We would recommend bringing cash with you in case you cannot access an ATM in more rural areas. We'd recommend getting a travel card before you leave for your trip (Monzo and Revolut are great options.) Your Tru Leader will be able to help you with finding the best atms with the lowest charges.

Is the tap water in Argentina safe to drink?

Tap water is generally safe to drink in major cities like Buenos Aires, but we'd recommend sticking to bottled or filtered water in more rural areas just to be safe.

Is Argentina safe to visit?

Yes! Argentina is one of the safer countries to visit in South America. It is important to be aware of petty crimes and tourist scams in the cities. Your Tru Leader will be on hand for any questions you might have on safety whilst in Argentina!

What language is spoken in Argentina?

Spanish is the language most commonly spoken in Argentina.
