ITALY TRAVEL ADVICE
THE BEST TIME TO VISIT
Italy is stunning year-round, but spring/summer (AprilâJuly) and autumn (AugustâOctober) are the golden windows, warm, bright and perfect for exploring the Amalfi Coast.
TRANSPORT
Italy's train network is excellent and one of the best ways to get around. In cities, metros and buses are easy to navigate, while ferries are the way to hop between coastal destinations. On our tours, all transport is sorted so you can focus on the good stuff!
CUISINE & FOOD
Italian food is a religion, and you must treat it as such! Eat fresh pasta, and order the local dish. Try cacio e pepe in Rome, risotto in Milan, fresh seafood on the Amalfi Coast, and gelato absolutely everywhere. Aperitivo hour is sacred - Aperol Spritz or Negroni, take your pick.
VISA ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
EU passport holders travel freely in Italy. UK and many other nationalities can visit visa-free for up to 90 days within the Schengen Area. Always check your government's official travel website for the latest info before you go!

Do I need a visa to visit Italy?
Visa requirements often change and it is always worth checking your local government website for the most up-to-date information.
What vaccinations are required for Italy?
There are no mandatory vaccinations for most travellers. We always recommend speaking to your local doctors. We're not medically trained, so we can't give official advice on vaccines you need/don't need.
Whatâs the weather like in Italy?
Italy's weather is incredible from April-September! We're talking long, sunny, hot days perfect for city exploring and aperols in the sun.
Whenâs the best time to visit Italy?
There is no bad time to visit Italy, but we'd say visiting between April and September will give you the best experience! July and August tend to be the busiest months to visit, and this is also when the heat peaks, so if this isn't for you, we'd suggest going early or later in the season.
Are there ATMS in Italy?
Youâll have no problem finding ATMs (âbankomats') in cities and towns across Italy. We'd recommend getting a a travel card before you leave for your trip (Monzo and Revolut are great options.) Your Tru Leader will be able to help you with finding the best atms with the lowest charges. You should also carry cash with you (in Euros) if youâre in rural areas, in case of emergency or if you canât access an ATM.
Is the tap water in Italy safe to drink?
Tap water is largely okay to drink in major cities like Rome. In more rural areas, the quality may be less reliable so it is always best to check with your guide and even consider sticking to bottled water to be safe!
Is Italy safe to visit?
Yes! Italy is very safe to visit. As with anywhere, we'd always recommend being aware of your surroundings and being alert to petty crimes and tourist scams in busy areas.
Is there a tipping culture in Italy?
We'd recommend tipping around 10% of the bill at resturants and bars. This isn't essential but it is a nice gesture. Your guide will be able to advise you more on tipping customs when you are exploring the country.
