Touch down in Malaysian Borneo to Kota Kinabalu Airport where your group leader will meet you upon your arrival. We’ll head to our cool Eco Lodge so you can freshen up before meeting your fellow travellers for a welcome dinner & drinks. Enjoy the scenic waterfront as we spend the evening making the most of this exciting, modern city.
Today we will visit Mari Mari Cultural Village, diving you deep into the culture and history. The village aims to share the knowledge and tradition of 5 different main ethnic tribes that make up Sabah, Borneo. This afternoon is spent strolling along the waterfront, before watching the sunset which has often been voted number one in the world!
This morning we’ll head off to our new resort in Sepilok, Sandakan. After a scenic drive amongst lush green trees and small local villages, relax in the refreshing pool that welcomes you as we arrive at our resort. This afternoon is definitely a highlight of the trip as we head to the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. There are approximately 80 orangutans are living free in the reserve and if you are lucky you may even spot some of the baby orangutans too! We will also head next door to the Bornean Sun Bear Centre which is home to the world's smallest bears.
After breakfast, we’ll head to the Kinabatangan river, whilst en-route visiting the Gomantong Caves. Upon arriving at our Adventure Lodge, we’ll get ourselves ready and head on a river safari. Get your cameras ready for the array of wildlife & birdlife in our surroundings. From pygmy elephants to crocodiles, proboscis monkeys and macaques, you will not be disappointed!
Wake up to the calls of gibbons as we embark on a morning river safari in search of waking wildlife and birds. Upon returning from the safari, pack your bags as we set off to Kundasang. Here we’ll check out the War Memorial & Gardens before spending the evening soaking up a truly local way of life; sampling local rice wine & eating local food.
This morning we'll have an early start as we explore Mount Kinabalu’s treetops. Enjoy the impressive view overlooking the hundred million-year-old rainforest which is accompanied by some rare feather beauties.
After we head to the highest waterfall in Sabah, the Langanan Waterfall. Standing 100m high, we'll trek 3.5km, but prepare for the challenge! In the afternoon you can reward yourself with a session in the hot springs, followed by a relaxing evening with the group.
After a fun-filled week of activities, we will unwind today to explore our surroundings at our own leisure. Check out the local markets, get yourself a massage & enjoy spending time with your fellow travellers.
It’s time to get tropical! This morning we’ll head over to Gaya Island, a divers paradise, where we will be for the next 3 days. Here you will complete your Open Water PADI course, or if you are already qualified you can choose to complete the PADI Advanced Diver or any PADI speciality course within the same time frame.
Enjoy your last breakfast in paradise before you say your goodbyes. Your group leader will be there to help you organise your onward travel no matter where you are going in the world.
