If you are currently planning or hoping to visit China in the near future, then this is for you!! We have come up with the perfect itinerary that will show you the very best of this beautiful and underrated country! Whether you’re here to take inspiration or you’re thinking of joining us on tour, make sure to read on, as we are here to give you some tea!
1. Beijing
Starting strong with Beijing. Home to 7 UNESCO World Heritage sites… Including the famous Great Wall of China and the Forbidden City! A great place to start your adventure with the best connections to the rest of the country.
We get it… You want us to get straight to the good stuff, and luckily for you, we’re here to do just that! We know the majority of people come here to tick off the wonders of the world, but if we could give you any tips on this, it would be to do your research. There are different entrances to the Great Wall of China, so we highly recommend checking them out online and choosing the best one for you based on the amount of time you have, hiking difficulty and the crowd levels, if that is something you want to keep in mind. If you are after a fun experience, though, we highly recommend coming down the wall on a toboggan.
2. Xi’An
Next up, we have Xi’An, the ancient capital! Here is where you will tick off a must-see archaeological site- the terracotta warriors. Quite literally an underground army that was discovered back in 1974, but with no historical records of them… that’s pretty wild, right? Spend your day exploring this incredible site, check out some museums (there are a lot of them!) and end your evening at the bustling Muslim Quarter, where you’ll find the most delicious street food.
3. Chengdu
Known for its Pandas (yes, you've read that right…) and spicy cuisine! If you plan on visiting this city, then make sure to take a trip to The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, where you can learn all about these gentle giants and the amazing work this organisation does. Walk around the parks, check out Jinli Ancient Street & Kuanzhai Alley and end your day with a delicious traditional hot pot!
4. Zhangjiajie
If you love the movie Avatar, then you’re going to love Zhangjiajie because that is actually the location that inspired the floating Hallelujah Mountains in the movie. That’s pretty cool, right?? Visit the national park and spend a couple of days exploring it. If you’re feeling brave, you can even head over to the glass bridge, the 430-meter-long, 6-meter-wide bridge that people are too scared to cross that you see all over social media… yeah, that one! Then spend your evenings exploring the town and visiting the local markets!
5. Shanghai
There is so much to do and see in Shanghai, their food and bar scene is like no other! Here, you’ll want to spend your days exploring the Yu Garden, a 5-acre classical Chinese Garden, built in 1559, which is in the old city and is known as the "Garden of Peace and Comfort", take a stroll in the Bazaar area and head to the Bund, the iconic waterfront, in the evening for the most insane views of the city! And when it comes to eating and drinking out… well, you really are spoilt for choice!
