What’s the Best Time to Visit Jordan?

According to the locals, Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-November) are the best times to visit Jordan. Spring and Autumn have milder weather, blooming wildlife and make exploring all the UNESCO sites Jordan has to offer much more enjoyable.

Understanding Jordan’s Climate:

Like any country, Jordan has a range of climates throughout the year, from the super hot to the freezing cold. If you are going to Jordan, you are most likely wanting to explore all its nature, amazing UNESCO sites and famous landscapes. We've got the must-read jordan travel information and broken down what to expect for each season, although it's worth remembering that months are not distinctly different any more, and sometimes the weather will be better or worse than expected - that being said, there's not such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing, right?

Spring (March–May)

If you want warmth, not blistering heat. Sun hats, not hiding in the shade. A tan, not a burn. Then this is the time of year for you! Jordan, this time of the year, is filled with outdoor dining and is buzzing with people all across the world coming to this bucket-list destination.

Top tips for travelling to Jordan in spring:

- Bring suncream! Don't be deceived by the slightly cooler temperature - the UV is still very strong.

- Pack layers - The temperature will dip in the evening, so remember to bring layers to pop on.

- Bring Modest Clothing - Although it can get warm, don't forget to bring something to cover your knees and shoulders.

Summer (June–August)

Ask any Jordinian and they'll agree that this time of year it HOT HOT! But it is still a great time to visit, as long as you come prepared and are adaptable to the heat.

Top tips for travelling to Jordan in Summer:

- Stay hydrated - as with anywhere, make sure you keep on top of your water intake and be careful about drinking alcohol in the sun.

- Don't forget modest clothing - Although it can get warm, don't forget to bring something to cover your knees and shoulders.

- Plan your activities in the morning and evening - this way you won't be out in the peak of the heat.

Autumn/Fall (September–November)

If you have your heart set on diving in the Red Sea or want to experience some lesser-known festivals, this is the time of year to visit for sure. This time of year is perfect for exploring Wadi al Mujib and Petra, and the evening temperatures make evenings in Amman's restaurants and bars dreamy. The diving conditions in the Red Sea are also great. If we had to choose this is when we'd visit!

Top tips for travelling to Jordan in Autumn/Fall:

- Be wary of tap water - don't drink unfiltered water and consider using tanked/bottled water to avoid sickness.

- Don't forget modest clothing - no matter the temperature, it is best to be respectful and dress with shoulders and knees covered.

- Plan activities in advance - this is a busy time of year in Jordan, so book your activities as far in advance as possible or consider joining a Jordan tour so everything is organised for you.

Winter (December–February)

Want a cosier Jordan experience? Booking a Jordan trip during their winter will save you money, leave fewer photo bombers in your photos, and you might still get a bit of a tan (the desert sun is strong!)

Top tips for travelling to Jordan in Winter:

- Don't skip the suncream - if you are travelling into the Wadi Rum desert, the sun and the UV will still be extremely strong, so be sure to layer up and avoid burns.

- Bring waterproofs - the rain here during winter is unpredictable, so it's best to bring waterproof layers just in case.

- Bring an SPF lip balm - the desert air is dryyy so bringing a lip balm that will soothe and protect is a good idea.

Shoulder & Off‑Season Advantages

When to visit Jordan is a big decision, and travelling to Jordan in the shoulder season (the sweet spots just before or after peak tourist times) is one of the smartest moves you can make. Think spring and autumn, when the weather’s way cooler than the scorching summer, but the vibes are still perfect for exploring. You’ll be able to hike through Petra, camp under the stars in Wadi Rum, or float in the Dead Sea without sweating buckets or battling big crowds for the best views. Plus, flights and accommodation are usually cheaper, which means more cash left over for adventures, street food, and maybe even a few extra nights out in Amman.

Best time to visit Petra

The best time to visit Petra is during the spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November), aka Jordan’s shoulder seasons. The weather’s way more comfortable than the blazing summer heat, so you can actually enjoy trekking through the Siq, climbing up to the Monastery, or snapping that Insta-famous shot of the Treasury without melting.

Best time to visit Wadi Rum & the Desert

The best time to visit Wadi Rum and Jordan’s desert is also in the spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November). Visiting during the shoulder season means warm days that are perfect for exploring the red sand dunes, hiking up rocky mountains, and chilling under the stars at a Bedouin camp without freezing or frying.
