10 Reasons To Say Screw It & Travel The World

Yep, I meant that, screw it, let's go travelling! If the pandemic has taught us anything it’s exactly what matters; friends, family, and experiences. Yet here we are getting stressed about the morning commute again, working a 9-5 and spending £5 a day on that morning hit of coffee. (Urgh London prices) so here are 10 reasons to say screw it and travel the world!

10. LIFE IS SHORT

No really it is, I was casually listening to an audio book the other day when I heard ‘the average person only has around 30,000 days on this earth’ WHAT?! 30,000 days?! To me, that doesn’t seem a lot. As I approach the age of 28, I’ve been on this earth for 10,200 and something days. ⅓ of the average life expectancy. Life’s too short not to travel, eat cake and drink wine. That’s my motto anyway.

9. YOU’LL BUILD CONFIDENCE

I’m not saying run away forever, become a digital nomad and live in the jungle (although that is my dream) but travelling has a way of building your confidence. Meeting new people, learning another language, it will all give you a bit more confidence. You find confidence in yourself in ways you never would have thought at home. Whether it be participating in a beer pong competition, approaching a group of people at the hostel bar or simply renting a moped and going solo, there’s no better way to gain confidence in yourself than through travel.

8. IT CAN BE REALLY CHEAP!

No really it can, I mean if you’re picturing 5* hotels and private jets maybe not but if you head to the right places you could live, party, travel and eat off the equivalent of a month's rent back home. So ultimately, you’re saving money right? That’s a good enough reason for me. There’s plenty of work away opportunities too so you can experience travel and learn some skills whilst you’re at it.

7. NOTHING CHANGES

I know what you’re thinking… but what if I miss out at home? But nothing really changes, the city you’re from, your favourite shops, they’ll all still be there when you return. You may miss a few bottomless brunches or sunday pub lunches but that’s probably it. The world keeps on moving regardless of where you are in the world. So why not be on a beach in Thailand? If/ When you return, life will feel better, sweeter and maybe a little bit brighter.

6. YOU’LL LEARN LIFE LESSONS

You may not learn about tax returns, mortgages or any of that boring stuff but you’ll learn a whole load of important life lessons along the way. Whether that be picking up a foreign language, how to fold your clothes to maximise your backpack space or simply how to cook really good food. (Always take a cooking class in Asia, that’s a rule) You’ll pick up skills and talk and practise them for years to come and that is a reason in itself ya feel?

5. YOU DON’T NEED A PLAN

You don’t need to decide where, when, who, what and why? Sometimes the best experiences are those in the moment or if someone else has done them for you. (That’s why group tours are great, you’ll meet people and everything is taken care of) It’s pretty sick. Sometimes a 6 month plan can over simplify things, so book the flight, the tour and I’m sure you’ll meet amazing people who you can devise a plan with! WIN, WIN!

4. IT’S GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH

Vitamin D baby! Yep, getting out into nature and catching some Vitamin D is scientifically proven to be good for you and your mental health. Being amongst nature, jungles, the ocean and the beach helps you clear your mind and find focus, it relieves stress, anxiety and boosts self esteem and lifts your mood. It also helps improve your sleep (You may need it if you choose a hostel with a loud snorer) So ultimately, travelling the world is good for you. The doctors say so right?

3. THERE’S SO MANY AMAZING PEOPLE & DESTINATIONS YOU HAVEN’T SEEN

I’m not sure about you, but I’m pretty sure I wasn’t put on this earth to spend my life in and around Southampton in the UK. Sure, it’s pretty, it’s got a nice beach nearby but there’s so much more of the world to see than just the UK. Even, Europe, There’s a whole wide world out there with people, experiences and adventures I haven’t seen yet and for me that’s super exciting. The feeling of waking up in a different country far from home brings me next level excitement.

2. YOU’LL NEVER BE YOUNGER THAN YOU ARE TODAY

That’s right, what a statement. You will never be younger than you are today. Sure, I may get some botox to appear younger but ultimately I’m the youngest I'll ever be. Tomorrow never comes, you’ll only ever experience the moment that you’re in. So go wild, feel young, live the life you’ve been daydreaming of.

1. SCREW IT!

As I write this, I’m currently looking at flights to Costa Rica, who knows where you or I will end up. Maybe I’ve spent too much time on the conspiracy side of TikTok about living in a simulation but if we are, this Sim is gona have the time of her life!

See you at the bar!
